MLT Aikins Edmonton Office

A vibrant two-storey office renovation and expansion to reflect a firm’s identity and create a foundation for staff and client relationships to thrive. This project focuses on accommodating MLT Aikins’ growing team, refreshing its work environment, and adding desirable amenities for clients and staff alike. The design prioritizes a classic, contemporary aesthetic within a highly efficient work hub to serve one of Canada’s largest law firms. It also marks one of several corporate offices designed by LM-ESP in partnership with MLT Aikins.

Previously, the client occupied the building’s 22nd floor and part of the 23rd floor. The original office space presented its challenges in limited workstations and meeting areas, modest in its staff amenities and in need of a refresh to match the firm’s evolving needs.

Phase 1 involved expanding the firm’s presence to occupy the full 23rd floor, increasing workstation capacity, meeting space and renovating the kitchen, copy room and open office workspaces.

Phase 2 reimagines the existing “front of house” spaces on the 22nd floor. The reception desk provides a warm welcome for visitors, framed by lounge areas and a refreshment station. Swirling quartz stone contrasts against walnut accents and light wood detailing, inspiring a fresh, modern and elegant setting. Linear LED lighting, a semi-transparent slat divider and glass walls add volume and allow natural light to penetrate this space. Patterned film detailing on the glass and acoustic control strategies promote privacy within nearby meeting rooms. The revised layout adds an 18-person conference room that connects to the updated staff lounge, along with meeting rooms, a project room, wellness space, and huddle room to support everyday collaboration and staff priorities in the office.

Commencing over two phases to support ongoing client occupancy, the office landscape is brighter, more connected and outfitted for today’s leading work needs at MLT Aikins.
