Manitoba Hydro Place Interiors

Winnipeg, Manitoba

One of the world’s most energy-efficient large-scale office buildings, Manitoba Hydro Place is a symbol of environmental conservation and a highlight of downtown Winnipeg’s skyline. Designed by Toronto-based KPMB Architects, the 22-storey LEED-platinum structure uses up to 70 percent less energy than comparable buildings built to contemporary standards without compromising occupant comfort. Inside, the iconic building’s dynamic interior spaces are designed for style, wellness, and flexibility to bring out the best in Manitoba Hydro’s skilled workforce.

Joining the project at the design development stage, ESP worked with design partners IBI Group and Number TEN Architectural Group to develop and implement the workplace interiors and common spaces on all floors. ESP was also tasked with designing the executive areas, including the CEO’s office and other critical spaces throughout the award-winning facility.

Workspaces on each floor were designed for openness, unobstructed views, access to fresh air, daylighting, and flexibility. Raised access floors and a demountable wall system promote simplicity in design and maintenance, allowing for convenient reconfiguration as needed.

Strategic use of sustainable materials — including reclaimed wood, low-emitting fabrics, recycled materials, and high-efficiency LED lighting — tastefully reflects Manitoba Hydro’s commitment to environmental leadership while contributing to a forward-thinking and health-focused workplace.
