Bethesda Regional Health Centre Redevelopment

This multi-phased renovation and addition on the Bethesda Regional Health Centre campus helps to bring in-demand healthcare services closer to home for residents in Steinbach and the greater region. Spanning two different facilities, the architecture and interior design aims to maximize patient comfort and privacy, create a healing environment, and streamline staff access to support service delivery.

Health Centre Expansion consists of a major 69,000 sf expansion to the 1960s-built, split level hospital. Occupying a compact site, the three-storey addition maximizes the square footage to house three operating theatres, 15 in-patient beds (7 for palliative care), a diagnostic imaging lab, spiritual room, staff entry and receiving dock. The design focuses on naturally integrating the addition into the existing facility, such as coordinating complementary materials and finishes to support design continuity and prioritizing smooth circulation where the facility ties into existing three levels of the hospital.

Kidney Health Manitoba reconfigures the Community Health Services building, adjacent to the hospital, to add the first renal dialysis unit in the region – aiming to help reduce patient commute times and alleviate demand on other health centres. IV/Wound Therapy and Children’s Rehabilitation were relocated in the building to create space for the state-of-the-art renal dialysis unit. The six-bay unit consists of one bariatric bay, offers movable privacy screens and integrated healthcare equipment. The central care desk greets visitors upon arrival and offers staff clear sightlines to treatment bays. Natural wood accents, uplifting teal tones and direct daylight help to provide a warm, welcoming environment.

LM-ESP serves as Prime Consultant on both projects. The renal dialysis unit opened in October 2023, the major hospital expansion was finished in February 2026.
