All Nations Hospital Pre-Design

This exciting pre-design process began by assessing the existing Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora to determine how the facility could evolve into the holistic health centre the region needs today and for the future. LM-ESP, Architectural and Interior Design Lead, HTFC Planning & Design, Landscape Architect, and Resource Planning Group Inc., Facilities Programming, teamed together for this multi-phased design planning endeavour. This collaborative process involved extensive stakeholder engagement and consultation processes working closely with Lake of the Woods District Hospital and the Kenora Chiefs Advisory, demonstrating a strong focus on designing for accessibility and culturally integrated healthcare.

Phase 1 involved assessing the existing facility’s condition and conducting a feasibility analysis of the current hospital. Detailed evaluation identified the existing hospital site is too limited to accommodate the growth the health centre requires, also factoring in its aging infrastructure and challenging compartmentalization. The design team began researching 20 other potential development sites in the region, ultimately shortlisting three sites, developing the master program and preparing master plans for the three sites.

Phase 2 led to producing the functional program and concept for the new health care campus on the selected site, creating a vision for its future. The design plans strategize for efficient departmental adjacencies and integrating all requirements into an integrated facility and cohesive site context at the preferred site location.

The Client gained key data, design assessments and in-depth planning, including cost estimates, to pursue project funding and help to navigate future planning to bring this major health and wellness development to the Lake of the Woods region.
