This year, a small group of LM-ESP team members volunteered their time and worked together to create a unique and inspiring Warming Huts design built along the Nestaweya River Trail for the community to enjoy this winter. We are excited to share our team’s concept for the Warming Huts! Introducing: The Viewfinder!
Viewfinder is inspired by a large-format camera, aiming to place each visitor in the seat of the observer, framing the winter views, adding warmth through its dichroic gradient-tinted filters, and bringing a sense of wonder.

The jury picked six international winners – including designs from China, Belgium, France, U.S., The University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture, and a local K-8 Winnipeg School – which will debut alongside returning favourites this year. While our concept won’t be moving forward this time, we wish to extend our congratulations to the winning teams. And a special thank you to all the LM-ESP team members who volunteered their talent and time to create such a thoughtful concept. We can’t wait to check out the huts on the ice!
