Leading the design for CancerCare Manitoba’s Cutting-Edge New 2nd Building
Major Project Announcement Text showing both LM-ESP and DIALOG logos.

As featured in the November 2025 issue of Canadian Architect (Pg. 6), LM-ESP, in collaboration with DIALOG, are leading the design of CancerCare Manitoba’s new 2nd building in Winnipeg. The facility represents a historic investment into the future of cancer care in the province.

The development will prioritize people-centered design for optimal oncology care, enhancing staff-well-being and workflows, and providing increased support for patients and their families as they move through the continuum of cancer care. It will also focus on empowering seamless collaboration, innovation and research by integrating advanced technology and equipment into the modern facility and planning for advantageous operational relationships and effective workspaces, all targeting improved patient outcomes for the future.

The project is currently in the pre-design phase. The design team is engaging with diverse stakeholders, users, community and client groups to help maximize the impact of this important facility. Design for well-being is at the core of the equation, planning for a healthy environment with access to natural light and views, places for respite and privacy and planning for intuitive visits and ease of access year-round, while fostering a sense of community and connectivity.

The new building will be located on the greater Bannatyne campus in Winnipeg, adjacent to the existing CancerCare Manitoba facility. Throughout all phases of the project, the design team will be working in close consultation with CancerCare Manitoba to help bring its goals, vision and core priorities to life in the built environment.

“We searched across the country to bring together an all-Canadian team of industry-leading, highly experienced and deeply knowledgeable multi-disciplinary professionals for this important endeavour.” (LM-ESP)

LM-ESP is honoured to be leading this local project after 70 years of demonstrating design leadership in Manitoba, with a special focus and dedication to healthcare design. We teamed with DIALOG, who recently served as the Prime Consultant for the design of Arthur J.E Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary – the largest cancer care centre in Canada and second largest in North America – completed 2023.

As a team, we look forward to sharing more updates as this exciting, highly anticipated project advances.

“The new CancerCare Manitoba facility will focus on supporting cutting-edge cancer care research and treatment and creating a provincial hub to help combat the impacts of cancer in Manitoba and beyond.”
